I loved this audience -- and the line-up was stellar, including my friend Mark Schiff (who just wrote a book (Why Not? Lessons in Comedy, Courage, and Chutzpah.)
I had wanted to try a new joke, but forgot. In fact, I forgot a lot of my jokes. But I learn from every show.
I've been performing since 1985, and I still don't know what to wear on stage.
* Bobby Miyamoto saw me perform at this show and he told David Spade how funny I was and I think that's why David asked me to open for him along with Bobby.

The Ace Theatre
Out of the blue I was asked to be one of David Spade's opening acts (see * Tuesday, Sept 13th) in downtown L.A. This show was my favorite show to date. It wasn't my best show, but I loved being a part of the night. I had never seen Bobby Miyamoto and he made me laugh so hard. And David Spade was thee funniest, nicest, and coolest human being. Jeff and I laughed the entire hour. One of the things I loved about his audience was he didn't know me, and my job was just to make them laugh and it was so much fun. The more I do this the more I realize it's not about me -- it's about me being of service. I'm probably still reeling from this show, whenever you are reading this.

Benefit for the Hearing Impaired - At Flappers. This was Bob Golub's 39th year of performing for the deaf community. Rich Cos hosted, Alonzo Bodden, Peter Spruyt, and Bill Burr headlined. Oscar Winner (CODA) Troy Kotsur made a special appearance. There were two signers who translated our acts for a third of the audience, and I fell in love with them both. I'm looking for their names.

May Contain Nuts - the annual Benefit for WeSPARK Cancer Center, held at the Skirball Cultural Center, was the best yet. (I've been to and performed at at least four.) This year Alonzo Bodden headlined AND hosted! Brian Kiley knocked it out of the park, and Jay Leno was astonishing as ever. Eighty six thousand dollars was raised for a beautiful cause.

Lisa Sundstedt's Pretty Funny Women
I headlined this show at Flappers, after Lisa and her students each performed. I love seeing new comics and comics I've never seen. Lisa tells the women in her class to watch me on YouTube, so when a few of them met me they fawned. But honestly, I'm in awe of how funny they were/are, and I learn from every comic I see. It feels so good to laugh.

Bobby Miyamoto, hilarious comedian, AND HE DIDN'T MIND SITTING IN THE MIDDLE SEAT, was the other opening act for David Spade. Okay, this gig was a career highlight. At 61. This leaves me hopeful. (We all need hope.) What a relief. Traveling with David Spade is surreal. He is so famous that people turn giddy around him and treat him like royalty. Seriously, every waiter, driver, flight attendant, greeter was in awe and uber attentive. He is so nice to his fans. I felt famous-adjacent, and cooler than I've ever been my whole life. But the best part was that I got to spend time with David Spade. He is so funny I laughed til I cried. And Bobby Miyamoto. We had fun.

This was the third time I've hosted the annual benefit for Healing Arts Reaching Kids (HARK), the arts program at Children's Hospital. We raised 35K for art supplies and musical instruments for all those hospitalized. This is the purest of pure in terms of charities. The event was at the Catalina Bar & Grill on Sunset Boulevard. I didn't know that Catalina was the owner's wife's name. The headliner of our benefit was Lenny Goldsmith and the New Old. Lenny used to sing in the band Tower of Power!!! After being inspired by his sons who are part of the band DAWES, and a 25 year hiatus, he started this band. People were on their FEET! If you want to donate to HARK: CLICK HERE

It was sold out, so Jeffrey and I sat in the green room with Jay's wife Mavis and watched Jay's set on the monitor. He had us HOWLING for an hour!
